Hafa Adai, LCGers!
Joe O’Brien your new LCG Office Manager here; last week I observed Cristel in her many, many, diverse and complex tasks (I’m reminded of those Hindu gods with at least six arms). This week I’m starting to learn how to juggle everything myself (maybe I’ll grow a few extra arms as well!).

Our Evangelism & Stewardship Committee is sponsoring this trip, which will be limited to 20 people (upper elementary and older). Registration, including a $100 non-refundable deposit, will begin next Sunday after the presentation.
Worship & Music Committee! Meets this Tuesday at 7:00pm to review recent happenings and plan for the fall. Newcomers are always welcome!
Planet Zoom (Vacation Bible School)! We had fun “zip, zap and zooming” for Jesus last week! Check out the VBS bulletin board next Sunday for pictures (thank you to Angel Luchsinger for the update!) Many thanks to those who made it all possible: Lynn Sumner (director), Zach Impastato (games), Stacie Morgan (crafts), Barbara Barlow (meals), Dave Lindee (music), Joe O’Brien (adult class), Karin Saethre (storyteller), the “bees” (Lisa “Barb-BEE” Collins, Jack “Bubba-BEE” Ary, Angie “Queen BEE” Duenas, Jeff “Sarge BEE” Moots, Siska “Nanny McBEE” Hutapea and Doug “Scout BEE” O’Meara), and everyone who provided food for the delicious dinners!
Youth Group! Get ready for “The Games” on Saturday, August 28 from 10:00am to 3:00pm! Our Group will be joining several other groups at Abundant Life Church (near NCTMS) to play and fellowship together. It’ll be fun! Regular Youth Group meetings will resume in September, meeting on the first Wednesday of the month (at a home on Andersen) and the third Wednesday of the month (at LCG). September 1 will be the first date, on Andersen. Youth Director Doug O’Meara will be looking for families of youth to provide dinner for the Group for each meeting. If you can help on either September 1 (at Andersen) or September 15 (at LCG), talk with Doug! Questions about our youth ministry? Contact Doug at 777-0716 or omeara.douglas@hotmail.com. (Our young people had a class of their own at the last week’s VBS August 2-6 with good participation.)
Tender Shepherd Board! Our preschool began a new school year on August 2‒and things are off to a great start with every class full (with a waiting list!), clean, shiny classrooms and teachers waiting to teach and love each child! The Board that governs this ministry will meet this Wednesday at 5:30pm. Chairing the Board is Rose Ary; other members include Kristine Hagen, Angel Luchsinger, Tanya Rogers, Dave Lindee (who directs the school) and Pastor Jeff.
Church Council! After taking the month of July off, the group that oversees the governance of this congregation will meet this Wednesday at 7:00pm. Jeff Moots is the President of our Council, Kristine Hagen serves as Vice President and Josh Cornthwaite is our Secretary. We are currently looking for someone to fill the Treasurer’s position. Other Council members include John Robertson, Rose Ary, Angie Duenas, Jim Rollen and Pastor Jeff Johnson. Congregants are welcome to attend the Council meetings with voice but no vote.
Some Sad News
We received the following email about the passing of Ernest Weinkauf, father of former LCG Pastor Randy Weinkauf:
At 10:50 a.m. this morning (August 3, 2010), my father passed from this world into the loving arms of Jesus. Tomorrow morning, Mom, Nancy, and I will travel back to Minnesota, as Dad's funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, Holland, MN, where Dad was a life-long member. He will be laid to rest in the Holland cemetery, with his parents on his right side and my sister Kathy on his left.

We had a very successful beach day and congregational picnic Saturday, August 7! Our grills were set up in the large pavilion behind the Seamen’s Center (the old USO) in Piti (by the power plant) thanks to Steve Miller and Jeff Wise for manning the grills. The swimming was excellent and some of our snorkelers saw many types of fish and sea cucumbers. We had great weather: sunshine, breezes, and even a 5 minute island-style downpour followed by a rainbow. Special thanks to Caitlyn Chance, Angie Duenas and members of the Fellowship Committee for all their hard work.
Evenings for Eight is a structured opportunity for fellowship—a chance to get to know 20+ other persons fairly well over the course of four evenings together. A host individual/couple will plan a social evening for a total of eight people. It’s the responsibility of the host/s to find a suitable date for those in your group (names will be given you), plan the event (dinner at your home, dinner out together at a restaurant, conversation, game playing, a beach cookout, a movie together with dessert afterward, etc.—your creativity is the limit!) and carry out the activity. On the other three evenings, you will be the guest. (Not every person needs to host an evening.) These gatherings will be held during the last two weeks of August; the first two weeks of September; the last two weeks of September; and during the first two weeks of October. If you’d be interested in being a part of this Fellowship Committee scheme, look for the sign up sheet on Sunday, reply to this email or call the church office at 477-8595.
